Existing sound replacement

This site would be extremely helpful to me when creating my own sound
replacement. The site contains an A-Z list of sounds with the a idea how to create the .Foley sound effect for that sound. This gave me an insight into what I would need to gather so that when I create my piece I'm fully prepared.

This site explains more of the importance of sound within films, I found this helpful as it gives you tips and reminders of what to do when using sound to make sure that the piece sounds successful it also gives you some information in software which would be helpful.

This is a video created by easty7, this was a university project where they also had to use sound replacement on a clip, and the clip they chose was Pirates of the Caribbean. He uses a lot of Foley recordings to create this piece. The reason why I chose to look at this piece was because it gave me an insight to what is possible for me to create with the equipment I have access to, I think that the way in which they have replaced the sound is done extremely well as you cannot even notice the difference unless you had watched them after one another.
This clip gave me a better insight in Foley sound, it helped me understand more about how Foley works, ways in which its created which gave me some ideas for my own piece. It also shows you how much of a difference Foley sound makes within a clip as it shows you too different clips one with and one
A website that could come in handy when creating my sound replacement piece is
http://www.freesfx.co.uk as once registered you are provided with a range of sound
FX which could help within your chosen project from waves to audience applauding. All the clips come in a high quality mp3 format which is useful when making sound replacing clips.

This video that I looked at gives an insight to sound used in Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Supervising sound designer/mixer Randy Thom talks about talks about the type of characters used in ice age, and goes on to speak about the common locations used in the film. This helps me to understand the environment that the characters are in so that I can create a realistic atmosphere when creating sound as it would have to link in to the original feel and setting of the film itself. He speaks about the two ‘worlds’ which are within the ice age story, one being snow and ice then it can switch to a tropical environment. The reason I find this useful as in the clip I am looking at it shows Scrat on an iceberg swimming in the ocean to the him changing and getting off on a sandy island, these are two complete different elements but what I would need to take into consideration when creating sound as each would have different sound characteristics. Rory Thom speaks about how he created sounds for certain characters before they were ever created to inspire the animators when creating each character, this shows the large impact that sounds plays within films and that a certain sound can give you an insight to what the character looks and acts like before even seeing them, which I find very interesting.
Rory Thom goes on to speak about using an elephant sound for the dinosaurs, although he never would have thought if that sound fitting in with the ideal sound for a dinosaur the sound actually created a realistic feel and one of which viewers wouldn’t have even noticed was an elephant in the first place. This interests me when creating my own Foley pieces as I would have to try many different things to create certain sounds and that a lot of the time the sound isn’t always what you would expect.
